My fiance and I made our yearly Trek. the food was outstanding in the service was excellent. For an appetizer I had elk and bison in a mixed grill. My fiance had the fried oysters which is several excellent. We both had the squash soup that was very creamy and rich. For the main course, my fiance had the rack of lamb and I had a taste, it was very good. I have the elk prepare differently and it was out of this world. The only thing missing was white tablecloths.
Amazing food and service. I tried the bison and it was amazing! First class service. Tanya is a great server. Very knowledgeable and such a great personality. Thank you!
A little hard to get there, but once you get there you are in for a wonderful experience. The food is simply outstanding and the service is equally as good. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant!!
To be fair I should point out that it is quite expensive but worth every penny!
We have dined at Gamekeeper many times and have always been impressed; however, our experience and meal were very disappointing on NYE. It was a prefix 4 course meal, which we were not a fan of. It was NYE, and we didn't want to sit at a dinner table for over 2 hours. It took way too long. The food started out very good until I got to my main course, which was the snapper. It was the worst piece of fish I have been served in a restaurant. It was not even edible, and some parts of the fist were undercooked. A good bit of time passed from the time I was served the fish and the time the server came back to check on us. I ended up eating some of my friend's elk, which was very good. Once the server came back, I expressed my dissatisfaction for the fish. Nothing was done at all to make up for the bad meal. For the money we spent ($1400 for a party of 6), I would have thought they would have cared more or would have done something. I do not know if we will return to Gamekeeper.
Wow! is the starting point. While there are vegan options available, the reason to come here is the meat -- and what a selection! Highly recommend the Chef's Surprise appetizer -- we enjoyed elk, bison and antelope sausages with wonderful dipping sauces. I doubled down on the elk chop -- combined with the blue mac & cheese and broccolini -- awesome. Partner went salad after the protein heavy main course, also awesome. Not the kind of place I would have expected to find in the NC woods -- would definitely come again.
